To
truly understand where a DJ is going is to look at where he's
been—and to appreciate that long journey from obscurity
to respect. Not how he grew up, or what his influences are,
or when he got his first turntable (that's a beginner's bio),
but how many gigs he has under his belt and the countless
hours spent turning a crowd.
Dirty
Hands has such a history. Like the unbroken path of a record's
groove, he has consistently paid his dues, with over a decade
in DC's club scene. From the back rooms and cramped booths
in the underground venues of the past, to the luxury and status
of the current mega-clubs, Dirty Hands has stayed the course
and "made it" his own way.
Although
he predominantly spins Hip Hop, preferably Old School, this
versatile DJ also dabbles in Soul, Funk, Reggae and 80's classics—an
unwavering format since day one. Back in the day, when Hip
Hop was still underground and drowned out on the dance floor
by house and Euro-trance, Dirty Hands was laying down Gang
Starr, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, and others, in places like
Pollen and State of the Union. Cutting and scratching the
foundations of the future.
